One of my first colored drawings... Not very good, but I learned a couple things doing this exercise! Comments and criticism are quite welcome!

You're definitely better at coloring than I am. D :
:iconkurinshin:
You think so? Thanks, that means a lot~
:iconiaes:
Of course! You obviously spent a long time on this. It's great!

Well thank you very much. What really bugs me is the anatomy... I still don't have it down. I will eventually though! D<
:iconiaes:
Yeahh the upper arms are a bit weird, but you'll get it soon! : D

Like a musical, it's the subtleties that really "stand out without standing out"~ Your smoky, aqua background textures, and your soft highlights (particularly on the top of his hair). Really a very ethereal result. Nice show of motion, too, in the way the sleeves/necklace flow~ The eyes look very Miyazaki.... :)

You said that you learned a few things working on this~ now I'm curious!

I think as far as those arms go, it's really just a matter of making them look 3-D. Ditto on hands~ and since hands and eyes are the "most expressive" of our features, it makes sense that understanding them takes time! Anatomy will come, but it'll come with practice....repetition........really, you're memorizing HOW that complex spider of bones and muscles (aka. a hand) will look when it balls up....hangs this way.....crumples that way......because you'll find that generally all hands keep to these rules.

To keep from getting bored, find shots that you find EXCITING, and draw 'em! Calvin Klein ads are great refs for graceful, long-limbed poses........for muscles being used in different ways, try Googling gymnasts, or singers (yup, the oft-shirtless kind~ "I'm practicing anatomy, I swear!!" :P) There's no shortage. You've got a great (and I do mean great) eye.......and your imagination is something deep, fantastical and from the Creator Himself. You've got a great

....Beautiful. I apparently didn't feel the need to finish my sentence......uh, that's just how I get my kicks these days! Let's try again, huh? :D

You've got a great way of opening yourself- completely undefensively- to guidance and suggestion. With everything you'll glean about art in your lifetime, it BOGGLES MY MIND to imagine the type of visions you'll be creating....
